In a recent interview with Polygon, Chris Carter opened up about the making of Ryan Coogler's reboot of The X-Files and whether Agent Mulder and Agent Scully will have appearances.
As it turns out, according to him, the two original stars will have a role in the reboot, although he declined to give specific details about their appearances.
"At least Gillian, I think, is going to appear in the Coogler version. And I'm assuming David will too, so you will see Mulder and Scully there," the creator said.
While the original characters will return, Carter did not specify whether it is a sign that the reboot will be a continuation of the original series.
"I don't know. When I see it, I'll know, and so will the Fox executives. They'll have a sense if these things are going to be in competition or if they are going to be complementary," he said.
Despite the reboot in the works, Carter is still open to doing another continuation of the original since he still has more ideas that he would like to explore.
He added, "I would love to do either another reboot or another movie. My ideas going forward are big ideas. Whether they're a TV series or a movie, I don't know, but I have big plans."

Amy Madigan, Tantoo Cardinal, Ben Foster, Steve Buscemi, Lochlyn Munro, Sofia Grace Clifton, Devery Jacobs, and Joel D. Montgrand made guest appearances in the pilot.
So far, Hulu has not made a decision on whether it will give a series order to the reboot project. Production for the pilot already took place, with Coogler writing and directing.
