The Umbrella Academy Season 2 ended in 2021, and after years of waiting, we now feel like we want to make a time skip just to watch season 3 already. But fret not, The Umbrella Academy Season 3 is almost here.
This upcoming season will introduce us to new siblings, a new mansion, and an alternate reality that we could explore together. In this article, we gathered all the information you need to know about The Umbrella Academy Season 3, protected within a nifty little briefcase.
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Release Date
The long wait is finally over! Two years after The Umbrella Academy Season 2 ended, Netflix announced that The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will officially air on the online streaming service on June 22, 2022. The first episode is already out!
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will premiere simultaneously all around the world, but we have to take note of the time differences across the globe.

The premiere of Season 3 falls on a Wednesday instead of a Friday, which usually is when Netflix releases a new series. Some speculate that Netflix took this move because Stranger Things Season 4 will also premiere on May 27, and the service does not want its two big shows competing for viewers' attention.
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Trailer
Netflix released a 15-second teaser to announce the return of The Umbrella Academy for a third season. You can watch the teaser here:
In the teaser, we see the Umbrellas and the Sparrows flex as if to prepare for a battle. The atmosphere is tense and ominous as we all get ready to see some fists flying and some superpowers going, but then, just as the action was about to start, the teaser ends.
On May 19, 2022, Netflix finally released the trailer a full month before the series comes out. You can watch the trailer here:
As part of Netflix's 2022 Geeked Week event, the streaming service also released another Umbrella Academy bonus video. The video shows the siblings entering the Hotel Obsidian. You can watch it here:
A few hours before The Umbrella Academy Season 3 officially premieres, Netflix released a Sneak Peek. You can watch the video here:
After the third season of The Umbrella Academy premiered on Netflix on June 22, Netflix released a 'non-teaser' video explaining all of the details they can share about the third season. You can watch the video here:
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Dance Off: Behind the Scenes of Footloose:
The first episode of The Umbrella Academy Season 3 came as a surprise with a very confusing dance number, with both The Umbrellas and The Sparrows dancing to the tune of Footloose. You can find the behind-the-scenes video here:
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Promotional Pictures and Posters
The Umbrella Academy's official Twitter account has been releasing promotional pictures that feature the siblings from both the Umbrella and the Sparrows. The first set of character photos showed the Sparrow Academy siblings. This promotional photo set shows the upper half of the faces of the Sparrows (upper half of the cube for Number 7, aka Christopher) to clue us into identifying which is which.
Netflix followed this up with The Umbrella Academy's own set of promotional pictures showing No.s 1 to 7, except for No.6 or Ben, whose affiliations are still up for questioning. This set shows The Umbrella Academy members with their backs to the viewers, each one holding a battered umbrella and their shadows standing under a quarrel of sparrows.
Many fans have shown concern over the battered looks of the original (original in their timeline, I guess?) Hargreeves umbrellas and the sparrows flocking over them. They speculate that this could hint at the battle between The Umbrellas and The Sparrows.
May 3, 2022, marks the start of the 50-day-countdown until Umbrella Academy Season 3 comes out on Netflix. To help fans and viewers get through the last leg of waiting, Netflix released a new set of pictures about the cast and the new characters they play.
After the trailer for the new season was released, fans are speculating about one major change theory in the comic books. In the original comic book, Hotel Oblivion is a prison built by Reginald Hargreeves, which also happens to be the title of the third comic book released by Way and Ba.
On the other hand, the trailer for the third season of the Netflix series featured the Umbrella Academy holding suitcases with 'Hotel Obisidian' stickers. It may sound a far fetch, but the producers may have opted to change the name of the hotel while keeping the story line. This could also be the producers attempt to lead fans away from the true plot and keep them on their toes.
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Cast and Characters
The original cast members of the series are all returning for The Umbrella Academy Season 3. We will see Tom Hopper as Luther or Number 1, David CastaƱeda as Diego or Number 2, and Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison or Number 3. Robert Sheehan will also return as Klaus (aka Number 4). We will also see Aidan Gallagher as Number 5 and Elliot Page as Vanya (Number 7).
Justin H. Min will also return, but he will not be the Ben Hargreeves (aka Number 6) we know. Is he for the Brellies? Or is he a full-fledged Sparrow? The latest update is that Ben is now Number 2 in the Sparrow Academy, the counterpart to Diego in Umbrella Academy.
We can also expect to see the return of Colm Feore as Sir Reginald Hargreeves, Adam Godley as Pogo, and Jordan Claire Robbins as Grace Hargreeves or Mom, but these castings are still unconfirmed. Ritu Arya may also return as Lila Pitts but remains unconfirmed as well.
Aside from the primary cast, there will also be a slew of new cast members joining the show as members of The Sparrow Academy, including Justin Cornwell as Marcus/Number 1, Britne Oldford as Fei/Number 3, Jake Epstein as Alphonso/Number 4, Genesis Rodriguez as Sloane/Number 5, and Cazzie David as Jayme/Number 6. The Sparrow Academy lot will also include an Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube called Christopher/Number 7.
Actor Javon Walton from Euphoria will also join as a new cast member, but his role is still a mystery.
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Plot
Netflix released the official plot summary for The Umbrella Academy on their Tudum website. It says:
Brellies, get your briefcases ā The Umbrella Academy Season 3 premieres on June 22. The last time we saw the Umbrella Academy, they had just stopped 1963's doomsday. Convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this timeline for good, they returned home to the present day. However, the celebration is short-lived when the crew realizes things aren't exactly (okay, not at all) how they left them. Enter the Sparrow Academy...
About as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone's concerns. Navigating challenges, losses, and surprises of their own ā and dealing with an unidentified destructive entity wreaking havoc in the universe ā the Umbrellas need to convince Dad's new family to help them put right what their arrival made wrong. Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives in the upcoming season? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?
The ending of The Umbrella Academy Season 2 showed how The Umbrella Academy managed to save the world (yet again). After returning home in 2019 after being transported to the 1960s, our heroes found that the timelines have changed, and home isn't quite the home they left.
By the season finale, we learn that, in this reality, Sir Reginald Hargreeves is alive and has formed The Sparrow Academy instead of The Umbrella Academy by gathering six other children out of the 43 kids that were born that one faithful day.
Upon arriving at the mansion, Luther and his siblings were shocked when they were greeted by their dead (but very much alive) surrogate father. Things escalate even further when a group of other supers surrounds Hargreeves, including a floating cube they call their brother and their very own Ben, who looks like Ben, but something isn't quite right. The Umbrellas and the Sparrows immediately clash, as with any other dysfunctional family.
The trailer teaches us that when The Umbrella Academy jumped through time, they caused a paradox that is slowly wreaking havoc. The team has four days to fix the paradox or the whole world will be ruined.
The ending of season 2 has left us with many questions that will hopefully be answered by The Umbrella Academy Season 3. Will the Umbrellas find their way back to their reality? Who is Ben in this reality? Why is Reginald Hargreeves alive? Will the Umbrellas and the Sparrows learn to work together to save the world? And what, in the name of Pogo's tattooed arm, is that floating cube?

Bonus The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Easter Eggs
The Umbrella Academy series is littered with Easter Eggs that many comic book fans and eagle (sparrow?)-eyed series fans can spot in almost every episode. One of these Easter Eggs that may prove relevant for season 3
During episode 8 of season 2 (The Seven Stages), Grace forces her way into Reginald's office and finds space travel blueprints and assassination plans for John F. Kennedy. Mixed in among these documents are blueprints for the "Televator," which Reginald claims to be the next great mode of transportation.
In the comic book series, the Televator is an elevator (get it, Televator?) that takes its passengers across time, space, and dimensions. Will the Televator be the Umbrella's ticket back to their reality?
