How The Testaments Season 1 Finale Sets Up Season 2

The Testaments Season 1 Episode 10, “Secateurs,” picks up after Becka (Mattea Conforti) kills her abusive father, Dr. Grove (Randal Edwards), and deals with the fallout of her actions. Becka is imprisoned, Agnes’ (Chase Infiniti) future is put in jeopardy, and the tide finally begins to turn against Gilead.
One of the finale’s biggest revelations is Agnes’ true identity. She is actually Hannah Bankole, the daughter of Luke Bankole (O-T Fagbenle) and June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss), who was taken from them by Gilead years earlier.
The truth causes Agnes to question everything she has been taught about Gilead after spending most of her life trapped within its system.
Meanwhile, Daisy decides to return to Gilead after being deeply changed by the girls she met there. Her decision means she becomes more involved in the resistance, eventually joining forces with Agnes as the two move toward the same mission.
This sets up a powerful partnership between them heading into The Testaments Season 2.
The finale also hints at Aunt Lydia’s (Ann Dowd) growing disgust with Gilead, teasing the possibility of her becoming one of the rebellion’s most important allies despite helping build the very regime they are now fighting against.
However, turning against Gilead would place her life in even greater danger, though for a far more meaningful cause.
That said, the growing unity between Agnes, Daisy, and Aunt Lydia appears set to become the emotional core of Season 2, further hinting at Hulu’s larger plans for the series as the story continues.
What to Expect from The Testaments Season 2?

With how things ended for The Testaments Season 1, the show is clearly far from over.
The renewal appeared to be an easy decision for Hulu, especially after the series reportedly performed well with 45 million hours viewed through its first eight episodes, while viewership increased by 76% from Episodes 1 to 8.
Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, the first season has yet to cover several major storylines from the book, including Agnes becoming a Supplicant to avoid marriage and eventually possessing documents that expose Gilead’s corruption.
These include evidence of Paula’s affair with a Commander and their plot to murder their spouses.
Even more sensitive information about Gilead is expected to reach the Canadian media, potentially sparking a revolt that could contribute to the regime’s downfall. However, not all of these developments can realistically be adapted within a single season.
Because of this, Season 2 will likely focus on uncovering more of Gilead’s darkest secrets, secretly feeding information to Canada, and gradually building toward Agnes, Daisy, and Aunt Lydia working alongside Mayday against the regime.
The Testaments Season 1 is now streaming on Hulu.
