There's no doubt that Joel Kinnaman redeemed himself thanks to his involvement in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad and despite the fact that Rick Flag's DC Extended Universe journey was short-lived, the generally rave reviews the film has been getting definitely reinvigorated the actor's career. However, just as Kinnaman is starting to experience his true breakout year in Hollywood, the actor is involved in a scandal involving a Swedish model with whom he had a romantic relationship in the past.
Kinnaman is currently under investigation by the Swedish Prosecution Agency over accusations of sexual assault. The complainant is believed to be model Bella Davis, who Kinnaman briefly dated in 2018. The connection between the two made headlines just recently after Kinnaman was granted a restraining order against Davis after the actor claimed that the accuser was attempting to extort him.
The prosecution agency's spokesperson says (via EOnline): "The prosecutor got the case today and has hardly been able to look at it. She has said there is a need for further investigative matters before she can make a decision."
Before Davis filed the report, Joel took to Instagram to tell his side of the story, claiming that he had a romantic, consensual relationship with the model when he was single in 2018. He went on to accuse Davis of trying to communicate with him in 2019 and 2020 but he chose to ignore her because he was in a relationship with model Kelly Gale.

Kinnaman's camp insists that Davis' rape allegations are completely baseless and if anything, it's a retaliatory move after he filed a restraining order against her. As it stands, the allegations thrown at the actor have yet to be proven but the scandal will definitely affect the public's perception of him. And with cancel culture now a thing in Hollywood, people will stop at nothing to try and "expose" Kinnaman in an attempt to tarnish his career. Hopefully, the truth will prevail in the end.
The Suicide Squad is now showing in cinemas. It's also available for streaming on HBO Max.
