A sequel to The Simpsons Movie has been officially confirmed, as Disney's 20th Century Studios has set a theatrical release date for 2027.
For years, fans have been clamoring for a second The Simpsons movie, given that the series is still airing new episodes to this day, and they felt that it is overdue for the beloved family from Springfield to have another big-screen adventure. Not only that, but it's also as popular as ever, having been a subject of many online memes, and fans have noted how it has accurately predicted many major events today.
When is The Simpsons Movie Sequel Arriving in Theaters?
Disney's 20th Century Studios has confirmed that The Simpsons Movie will be released on July 23, 2027.
The project will be taking the place of an untitled Marvel movie that was previously scheduled in that slot. By the time it arrives in theaters, it will have been 20 years since the first movie.

So far, the plot details regarding what they have in store for the titular family's next big-screen adventure are currently being kept under wraps. It is also not expected to affect the events in the TV series.
Fans celebrated the news that The Simpsons is returning to the big screen after two decades, and they hope it will deliver the same high-quality entertainment
There are also fans online who have pointed out that the series already predicted the movie would have a sequel 20 years later in Bart's infamous chalkboard gag that aired in a season 19 episode.
"I will not wait 20 years to make another movie," Bart wrote on the chalkboard.
It is unknown whether the 20-year gap was intentional, but fans can't help but point out the coincidence, which continues the long-running observation that the series has accurately predicted many current events in its past episodes.
What is the Future of The Simpsons on Television?
The 37th season of The Simpsons recently premiered on Fox on September 28. Selected episodes of the current season will also be released as exclusives on Disney+ at a later time.
Last April, the series was also renewed for four more seasons alongside the other Fox animated shows such as Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, and American Dad, extending its run until its 40th season.
There are no plans to end the series after its recent four-year renewal, nor are there any major changes to its cast and crew anticipated anytime soon.
