Former The Voice coach Blake Shelton and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan are working together on a new CBS singing reality competition series The Road.
For the past few decades, we've seen singing reality shows dominate our screens and introduce a new generation of music artists who become superstars in the industry. What will the new series be about? Let's explore below.
What is Blake Shelton's The Road About?
According to reports, The Road will "follow a music superstar on a journey to discover the next big artist, with budding singers joining the headliner on tour, performing as opening acts in venues across the U.S."
The singers will compete to win over local fan bases to secure a spot in the next city and remain on the tour. So far, the headlining artist has not yet been revealed.
CBS also said in the announcement that the series will offer viewers "a backstage pass into the gritty and unforgiving life of a touring artist. With exclusive access to the behind-the-scenes workings of the music industry, viewers will see what happens when some of the best up-and-coming performers pile into a tour bus and tackle a grueling schedule in pursuit of their dreams."
Shelton and Sheridan are involved as executive producers of the series. As most reality fans know, Shelton is no stranger to the singing competition arena since he served as a coach in The Voice for many seasons.
Who Will Serve as the Host and Judges of The Road?
So far, there are no official details yet regarding the host and judges of The Road as the project remains in development.
There is a possibility that Shelton will have an involvement in front of the camera, most likely serving as a judge/mentor to the contestants considering his expertise in the music scene.
"I’m a big fan of Taylor’s incredible work, and I’m excited to team with him and my long-time collaborator Lee on The Road," Shelton said of his involvement in a statement.
"I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform."
When is The Road Coming Out?
There is no release date set yet for The Road as the series is still in development at this point.
However, CBS has confirmed that the series is expected to premiere around fall 2025 as part of their broadcast schedule that season.
Future fans of the series should wait for any news and updates regarding the series in the coming months as well as how aspiring musicians could also audition to compete in The Road.
