There are always some changes in the Disney live-action remakes of the animated films. For The Little Mermaid, it was reported that The Little Mermaid live-action sisters of Ariel would be getting different names.
So, who are Ariel’s sisters in The Little Mermaid live-action remake? What are the names of The Little Mermaid live-action sisters? This article answers questions about The Little Mermaid live-action sisters and their role in the movie.
Who Are Ariel’s Sisters in The Little Mermaid Live-Action Remake?
In the new The Little Mermaid film, Ariel’s sisters do not have the same name in the 1989 animated version. Originally, the names of the sisters were Attina, Alana, Adella, Arista, Aquata, and Andrina (all notably starting and ending with “A”).
However, in the live-action remake, the names of Ariel’s sisters are Perla, Karina, Indira, Caspia, Mala, and Tamika. Their names no longer start with “A”, although they still end with that letter.
Perla is based on Andrina; Karina is based on Arista; Indira is based on Alana; Caspia is based on Adella; Mala is based on Attina; and Tamika is based on Aquata. Additionally, while in the 1989 animated version, all of Ariel’s sisters are white, in the live-action remake, this is not the case.

The Role of Ariel’s Sisters in The Little Mermaid Live-Action Remake Explained
As in the 1989 animated version, Ariel’s sisters do not have major roles in the live-action remake. They only appear in very few scenes.
In the new The Little Mermaid film, Ariel’s sisters do not like the humans and remind Ariel of the terrible things they have done to the merpeople, like killing one of their kind. There’s also a scene where they clean up after the shipwreck that occurred with Eric involved in it.
They complain about the damage the humans have caused to the sea, and when Ariel leaves, they think she just doesn’t like hanging out with her older sisters anymore.
After Ariel disappears, King Triton asks his daughters to look for Ariel. At the end of the movie, Ariel’s sisters also appear before Ariel leaves with Eric. Triton tells Ariel that the merpeople (including Ariel's sisters) will always be with her.
These are the only instances where Ariel’s sisters appear in the film. While The Little Mermaid remake has done some changes to characters (like with Eric), the movie has not given Ariel’s sisters a bigger role. They do not even have their own musical number, unlike in the animated version ("Daughters of Triton").
However, perhaps we could get more of Ariel’s sisters in a sequel to The Little Mermaid, should another film be made. We did get more about the sisters in Ariel’s Beginning (2008) after all, so maybe another live-action movie of The Little Mermaid could give a bigger role for Ariel’s sisters.
