- Quick Answer: Marvel Studios executive producers confirmed X-Men '97 Seasons 3 and 4 are in development, promising new seasons will now be released annually with much shorter gaps.
The executive producers of X-Men '97 have confirmed that more seasons are currently in the works, following the release of the second season this year.
The acclaimed animated series is finally returning with a sophomore season this summer, with a trailer released recently that gave fans an exciting look at what's next in the mutant team's next adventure and their face-off against Apocalypse. Fans have also been wondering whether more seasons are now being planned ahead of its premiere.
Are X-Men '97 Seasons 3 and 4 Already in the Works?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, X-Men '97 executive producer Larry Houston confirmed that the third and fourth seasons of the animated series are already in the works.
Not only that, fans can expect new seasons to be released annually, starting with the upcoming second season. The first and second seasons notably have a two-year gap due to the change of showrunner following the firing of Beau DeMayo.
"They want everyone to know it's only gonna be a year now between seasons, not two-and-a-quarter years. It's gonna be a year until the next one and a year until the next one [after that]. They are on schedule now," Houston said.
"One of the reasons they're on schedule is we've gone over, given notes on, responded to not only all the scripts for season 3, all the animatics for season 3, we are in season 4 giving script notes. So that's how deep they are into the development."
Executive producer Eric Lewald joked that "there's a commitment until our grandchildren have grandchildren."
This is exciting news for fans, as there is now an assurance that more seasons of X-Men '97 are coming in the next few years, and there won't be a long gap between seasons. It remains unknown whether there are plans to develop more seasons after the fourth.
What to Expect in X-Men '97
In the second season of X-Men '97, the X-Men find themselves scattered across the timeline. Xavier, Magneto, Rogue, Nightcrawler, and Beast are stranded in ancient Egypt during the year 3000 B.C., just as Apocalypse begins his rise to power.
Meanwhile, Jean Grey and Cyclops are hurled into the distant future of 3960 A.D., where they experience a massive Summers family reunion with their kids. The whereabouts of Storm, Wolverine, and Morph are currently a mystery. Bishop and Forge must now find a way to bring everyone home before Apocalypse can ambush the X-Men in the '90s timeline.
"You have the fun of playing with very specific groups of X-Men together, trying to figure out how to get where they need to go," executive producer Julia Lewald teased.
The second season of X-Men '97 is set to premiere on Disney+ on July 1. Just like the first season, new episodes will be released weekly.
