Mike Flanagan has a new horror series, The Fall of the House of Usher, in time for the coming Halloween. But compared to his other Netflix shows with the same theme, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Midnight Club, how is this different?
Flanagan has been adapting literary works into TV series or movies. But though The Fall of the House of Usher is another literary-inspired, it will be unique compared to his other projects for the streaming giant because of this one key change.
The Fall of the House of Usher's Theme
The Fall of the House of Usher is based on the short story of one of the most renowned gothic writers in history: Edgar Allan Poe.
It will feature many of the iconic writer's works, led by the unnamed narrator who comes to Roderick User's aid.
Usher is sick and eventually becomes a mad guy who entombs his sister while still alive. According to the show's cast, this one totally differs from Flanagan's previous works.

The series will feature eight episodes, of which Flanagan and Micheal Figmonari directed four episodes each.
Describing The Fall of the House of Usher
In an interview with The Wrap, the filmmaker described his new series as "heavy metal." Compared to The Haunting TV series and The Midnight Club, it's like an Italian Giallo movie.
"It's crazy. It is unlike anything I've ever done but in the other direction," he said. "My favorite way to describe it to people is like Hill House is kind of a string quartet, and Bly Manor is this delicate, kind of beautiful piece of classical piano music, and The Fall of the House of Usher is heavy metal. It's rock 'n' roll."

He also described it as wild, colorful, dark, blood-soaked, wicked, funny, aggressive, scary, and hilarious. In fact, it was the first time he did something like it.
"We left everything on the field with it, and it's just bombastic fun," he continued. "I'm really excited for that to find its way out because I especially think both The Midnight Club and Usher just go off in their own drastically different directions, and next to each other, they're fascinating to me."
There are no words yet for when The Fall of the House of Usher will be released.
