Though Steve Rogers may have passed the Captain America mantle on to Sam Wilson in Avengers: Endgame, it looks like the US government wants someone else in that position for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Though we know that US Agent/John Walker is going to be introduced in the show, some merch has confirmed that Walker will go by the mantle of "Captain America."
Check out this new merch from the show (which also gives us a look at Baron Zemo):
Though it would have made sense for Sam Wilson to be the new Captain America storywise, it looks like the government in the MCU won't be agreeing to it; after all, Sam has been kind of a rebel, and it's possible he would prioritize doing the ‘right thing' over simply following orders.
It's going to be interesting to see how John Walker will function in the movie. While it's possible that he could just be a Steve Rogers without a moral compass, some are hoping that US Agent will come out as the "Homelander" of this show. Then again, we shouldn't pull away from Baron Zemo from taking the spotlight. Though he was able to break up the Avengers, a lot of people think that Daniel Bruhl's Zemo was pretty forgettable. Hopefully this time he'll make himself a more memorable adversary—maybe even the lead of the new HYDRA.
No release date has been set for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, but WandaVision is expected to hit Disney+ sometime later this year.
