The Last of Us Episode 2 titled Infected brings so much relevance to the title of the episode as it takes everyone into Joel, Tess, and Ellie's journey through the rubbles of the remains of the US, but what happens in the end makes everyone bawl out in tears.

As they navigate through the rotting hell-scape of the country, they had to choose between the long way or the short one but they still had to go through both as there are dangers lurking from each place. This puts all three of them in the middle of a battle between life and death.

Unfortunately, not all of them remain unscathed. Ellie has been scratched by an infected but they shouldn't be worried too much with that because through such, Tess was able to prove that Ellie may really be immune to it and could be the chance of humanity to fight back.

Then, there's Tess who was, unfortunately, bit near her neck. Despite seeing Fireflies dead, Tess' hope remains as she orders Joel to carry on with the mission that they have especially now that they have proof that Ellie might really be humanity's last hope.

Tess had to die so Joel would understand the weight of the situation placed in their hands. Similar to the game, Tess also died but there, she was killed by FEDRA agents even before turning into a monster. Tess' death is inevitable and has always been part of the narrative.

It is now all up to Joel whether he could bring Ellie to their destination and the parting words of Tess sends everyone bawling their eyes out, "Sdave who you can save." Tess knows that in her condition, her time is running out but that does not mean that the world should end with her death.

Joel had always been reluctant in saving people especially given the fact that when the outbreak started, he couldn't even save the life of his daughter. It is as if Joel kept living without any driving force in life, well, except maybe his brother, Tommy, but other than that, he's a walking corpse full of the pain of his past.

Now that Joel bears this responsibility, he owes it to Tess who sacrificed her own life so he could bring Ellie to safety and give humanity another chance in life.
