What happened in The Dawn of The Witch Episode 1?
The Dawn of the Witch Episode 1 begins with Saybil, the main character, recalling a vivid memory from his past in which an enigmatic hooded girl comes to his rescue in the middle of a downpour. According to the mysterious girl, they both have the same eyes, thus inviting him to a world befitting Saybil.
The action then shifts to Saybil at the Wenias Academy of Magic. Saybil, it appears, has no recollection of his previous memories prior to enrolling in school. In fact, he has no recollection of taking the entrance examination. However, this is not his primary concern at the moment, as he has been summoned in front of the entire academy by the headmaster, Albus.
Saybil, for your information, is the worst student at school, ranking at the bottom of the academy. He comes across the cheeky and childish Loux Krystas on his way to the headmaster, who is attempting to open the door to the headmaster's room.
What should be a quick visit to the headmaster becomes a scuffle when Loux Krystas engages in a momentary battle with the headmaster's servant, Holdem, while simultaneously ordering him to open the door.
Holdem manages to stop Loux Krystas' ruckus because she is a mage who can't use magic due to her eating staff of Ludens. In any case, both Loux and Saybil enter the headmaster's room only to be informed of the current situation between the Church and the Witches.
Notably, as part of a special field program for Saybil, Albus wishes to establish a village for good witches in the south. Initially, Albus believed that Saybil would be able to hone his casting skills outside of the campus rather than on it.
With that said, Saybil agrees to the headmaster's terms and conditions because he doesn't have any other options. If Saybil's supervisor does not think he is worthy of being a true wizard, the headmaster will erase all of his memories of magic.
Moving on, Saybil is joined by the cunning Loux Krystas, who takes over as Saybil's professor. Together with Hort, the academy's top student, the three of them set out on a journey to the south, joined by another group led by the beast fallen Kudo. In case you missed it, a beast fallen is a creature that witches use as a sacrifice for their magic, which explains why they are treated differently.
The first episode ends on a cliffhanger, with Hort and Saybil discovering Kudo's lizard tail brutally cut while on their way to Loux Krystas, who is currently searching for Kudo's location. The three of them believe Kudo sacrificed himself so that his comrades could escape the witch hunters.
