The Brutalist director Brady Corbet recently revealed that he earned "zero" money for working on his acclaimed epic.

The film is currently nominated in 10 categories at the 97th Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director for Corbet, as well as acting nominations for Adrien Brody, Guy Pearce, and Felicity Jones.

Brady Corbet Admits He Earned 'Zero Dollars' from The Brutalist

In a recent interview, Corbet shared that he recently worked on commercials in Portugal and it was his first paycheck job in years since he didn't earn any money from working on The Brutalist.

"This is the first time I’ve made any money in years. Both my partner and I made zero dollars on the last two films we made. Yes, actually zero," the Oscar nominee admitted.

"So we had to just live off of a paycheck from three years ago and obviously, the timing during an awards campaign and travel every two or three days was less than ideal, but it was an opportunity that landed in my lap, and I jumped at it."

Corbet added, "I’ve spoken to many filmmakers with films nominated this year who can’t pay their rent. You’re not paid to be promoting a film."

A lot of movie fans online were shocked by Corbet's revelation as it shed light on the reality of being an independent filmmaker and an artist, especially in this tumultuous time in the entertainment industry.

So far, Corbet has not revealed his plans for the next project that he will be directing.
