In a post-mortem interview with Deadline, Ted Lasso co-creator and star Brendan Hunt addressed Roy Kent's surprising fate in the fourth season's finale.
With the fan-favorite character leaving AFC Richmond for another football team, does it mean that we have seen the last of him? Not only that, but Brett Goldstein has also been busy with other projects.
Hunt explained, "No, not necessarily. It is acknowledging that he’s a busy man and giving us some wiggle room, I would say. But no, there’s no expectation of losing Roy and Keeley. But they are two very busy people, so wiggle room is a smart thing."
When asked whether Goldstein and Juno Temple, who plays Keeley, won't be series regulars in the potential fifth season, Hunt was unsure with his answer.
"We have no idea. We don’t know if we’re coming back, and when we come back, we don’t know what’s going to be going on in their lives. But yeah, they’re both really busy. So yeah, the wiggle room," he said.
For now, it looks like Roy Kent is still part of the series when it returns next season, and fans have nothing to worry about regarding the character's fate.
Is Ted Lasso Already Renewed for Season 5?

So far, Apple TV has not renewed Ted Lasso for a fifth season, but there are reports stated that a renewal is imminent.
However, when asked whether the fifth season is already in early development, Hunt denied reports that they have been given the signal for renewal.
"Well, then that’s news to me. I certainly hope it happens, and I’m optimistic, but yeah, haven’t heard anything official yet. It would be nice, though," he said. "As happened for Season 2, they can greenlight a room before they greenlight a season if they want, but neither has happened."
All four seasons of Ted Lasso are available to stream on Apple TV. Stay tuned for updates on the renewal soon.
