In the first episode of 1883, Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan teased the death of the narrator. Despite this, many fans remained hopeful that Elsa would prevail in the end. Regrettably, this was not the case. Many of the characters died in 1883, but the saga of the Duttons in the 19th century is far from over.
Additional episodes of 1883 will be released, but there will not be a complete second season.
1883 Will Return with More Episodes
Many of the characters in the Yellowstone prequel 1883 died tragically. The bulk of the immigrants, including Josef's wife Risa, died on the trek. Josef appears to have arrived in Oregon, but he is alone and only has one leg. Shea commits suicide, and Elsa dies in Montana. Fortunately, Thomas, Noemi, and her sons arrive in Oregon unscathed.

Sheridan, however, has bigger ideas for 1883. According to The Wall Street Journal, additional episodes of the series will be released to Paramount+ in the fall. These extra episodes are not expected to constitute a full 1883 Season 2.
Sheridan has also hinted that fans of 1883 may not get a neatly wrapped-up story for all of their favorite characters.
Taylor Sheridan Will Still Leave Us All Hanging
The Dutton family and their journey to Montana were always the focus of 1883. Despite this, many viewers became devoted to the journey's other characters, and the 1883 ending left many questions unsolved.
What are Thomas and Noemi's plans for the future? Is Josef able to find a new wife or even find happiness? These inquiries may go unanswered. Sheridan, on the other hand, seems unconcerned about it.
“I created this peek through time to show you this one specific journey,” he told Deadline.
“I’m not someone who likes to tie everything up in a bow and explain how everyone lived happily after or didn’t. I’d rather you imagine it, and wonder what Thomas and Noemi made of their lives.”

1932 Will Continue the Story of the Duttons
Although 1883 does not answer every question regarding its characters, the Dutton family's narrative will be continued in another series titled 1932. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 1883 executive producer David Glasser, 1932 was "always intended to be the second season" of 1883.
All episodes of 1883 are currently available to watch on Paramount+.
