Taylor Lautner recently defended his ex Selena Gomez against the body-shaming comments that were made about her appearance.
Gomez has been making a lot of red-carpet appearances for the past few months as part of the Emilia Perez awards campaign, but fans online have been speculating about her appearance and weight loss compared to last year.
Taylor Lautner Calls Out Body-Shaming Comments Against Selena Gomez
In a recent post on his Instagram story, Lautner called out body-shaming comments and posts that were made against Gomez.
He particularly highlighted a post on Instagram that showcased the contradicting comments on the actress' appearance throughout the years and the speculations that she may have used a weight loss drug.
"It's a cruel world full of hate out there. You can never please everyone nor should you have to. In my experience, it doesn't make the words sting less, it just refocuses you onto what matters," the Twilight star wrote in his post.
"And it sure isn't the shape, color or appearance of your body. Daily reminder to all of us to not forget how beautiful you are inside and out… and to be a little nicer."
Lautner's calling out of the body-shaming comments may not be surprising for fans who have been following his career since he publicly opened up about his body image issues throughout the years.
Taylor Lautner and Selena Gomez's Dating History
Lautner and Gomez briefly dated in 2009. They met when Gomez was filming Ramona and Beezus in Canada while Lautner was working on The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
However, the public interest in their relationship led to the end of their brief fling.
"Kristen [Stewart] was staying in my hotel. He would visit her, so we were constantly running into each other in the lobby—and we ended up meeting," Gomez shared in a 2009 interview.
"We would go out to lunch and dinner, but I knew he had paparazzi following him and I had paparazzi following me. So we literally just wanted to hang out, go bowling and stuff, and it went a little too far, I think. People were getting a little crazy about us."
Today, Lautner is married to his wife Taylor "Tay" Dome (who took his last name upon marriage and is now also named "Taylor Lautner") while Gomez is currently engaged to record producer Benny Blanco.
