A new report suggested that Taika Waititi's long-in-the-works Star Wars movie is reportedly on hold.

For the past few years, the Oscar-winning filmmaker has been working on a new Star Wars movie. His involvement came after he directed the first season finale of The Mandalorian which received praise from fans and critics.

However, since the announcement of the project, we have not heard any official updates regarding the progress of its development although Waititi has teased in various interviews what he has in store for his movie.

According to a recent scoop from insider Daniel Richtman, Taika Waititi's Star Wars movie is currently on "indefinite hold."

So far, Lucasfilm has not confirmed the claims made in the report so you can take this with a grain of salt.

Considering that we haven't heard any progress on the project, it's not truly surprising that the studio might have put it on hold for a meantime and perhaps resume its development once they are ready to continue pursuing it.

Waititi is also busy at the moment as he is currently working on multiple projects across film and TV and he has no time at the moment to focus on the Star Wars movie, especially as Lucasfilm is also prioritizing other projects.

At this point, some fans would not be surprised if Waititi's mysterious project ends up getting canned, and they'd rather develop other movies that have more realistic chances of happening.

With The Mandalorian & Grogu currently in production, it is clear that Lucasfilm is committed again to reviving the Star Wars franchise on the big screen and hopefully, it will have consistent outputs and results in the coming years.
