Reality TV fans have been debating for years which of the two long-running CBS reality shows Survivor and Big Brother are better.

After all, both shows have endured and stood the test of time in the pop culture scene and remain some of the most viewed shows on reality television even with the emergence of other titles. Let's explore the debate below.

The Case for Survivor

Survivor is arguably one of the most iconic reality competition shows of all time as evidenced by its 47-season run so far (airing 2 seasons per year) and its massive loyal fanbase that is keeping its run alive today.

Just like most reality shows, the series is full of drama and tumultuous challenges that make it an entertaining watch among the viewers and contestants that have become iconic and memorable because of their intense competitiveness.

What made it popular is how the series managed to have a lot of drama in each episode, especially during the elimination period when the mood among the contestants gets too intense.

It also helps that each season is set in a unique isolated location that makes it challenging for contestants and heightens the drama overall. Jeff Probst's exceptional hosting also elevated the experience for viewers.

The Case for Big Brother

Similar to Survivor, Big Brother is also full of drama and challenges that make it a thrilling experience for both contestants who are stuck inside the house and the loyal viewers who are watching.

However, the series has also become controversial because of the bullying and discrimination that have reportedly happened inside the house in various seasons.

The biggest memorable part of each season is the weekly elimination rounds as viewers were able to witness the backstabbing and dramatic twists that occur and shock the remaining contestants inside.

Julie Chen's hosting of the series has also been widely praised as she always keeps it all engaging regardless of the temperature that is happening inside. Despite the controversies, CBS has kept it running for 26 seasons.

Which Reality Shows Rule Between Survivor and Big Brother?

From an accolades standpoint, you can easily argue that Survivor is a better reality series as evidenced by its numerous Emmy wins and nominations and strong viewership throughout the years.

Big Brother also has a loyal fanbase and solid viewership although it usually airs during the summer season where the ratings are usually lower than the standard broadcast season.

While Survivor easily triumphs from an accolades perspective, loyal fans of Big Brother would still argue that it rules better because of the unique drama and how it is more of a distillation of "reality."

In the end, it's all subjective and fans will have their own taste in what they like better and not. One thing's for sure, both shows are extremely popular and already made their marks in the history of reality television.
