DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn might have once said that he’s still “preparing” to write a Superman sequel, but the Man of Steel’s next DC Universe (DCU) adventure is coming sooner than expected.
It is known that the story of Kal-El will expand in the upcoming Peacemaker Season 2, which will feature appearances by several members of the Justice Gang in the HBO Max series.
Beyond that, the upcoming DCU movies are set to take place soon after the events of Superman, solidifying the franchise’s new timeline and universe.
How Will Superman Continue in Peacemaker Season 2?

The ending of Superman seems to tie directly into Peacemaker Season 2. The first movie to kick off the new DCU doesn’t just feature Peacemaker (John Cena) himself—several of its characters will also appear in the show’s second season.
In fact, James Gunn revealed at the series’ panel at 2025’s San Diego Comic-Con that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place a month after the events of Superman.
“A lot of the characters return… in the first episode, we have Guy Gardner and Maxwell Lord,” he teased.
Also known as Christopher Smith, the antihero has shown great distaste for Superman (David Corenswet) and everything he stands for.
However, since the beloved superhero successfully defeated Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) and saved Metropolis, fans will have to see if Smith’s feelings change.
Additionally, the Peacemaker Season 2 trailer suggests that Peacemaker will find himself in a different universe, possibly exploring pocket dimensions—an element introduced in Superman.
With this connection and Gunn’s earlier tease of “one big cameo” in Peacemaker Season 2, there’s a strong chance that Superman himself will appear.
What Are the Other DCU Movies That May Take Place After Superman?

After Peacemaker Season 2, DC Studios will release several DCU projects set to take place after Superman.
The next movie slated for release is Supergirl. In fact, Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock) made a cameo in Superman to retrieve her dog, who happened to be Krypto.
With her appearance, it seems her movie will closely follow the events of Superman, focusing on her journey after she returns to space to embark on her own story, which is based on Superman: Woman of Tomorrow.
In this story, Kara and Krypto are set to explore the universe. Judging by the clues, she appears to be trying to avoid Earth and her past, a theme her movie may explore following her reunion with Kal-El.
Other upcoming projects include Lanterns and Clayface, which are also expected to expand the DCU.
Peacemaker Season 2 is set to premiere on August 21, 2025, followed by Supergirl on June 26, 2026. Lanterns and Clayface are also slated for release in 2026.
