How Different is Mister Terrific from Edi Gathegi's Darwin Role in X-Men?
The first time Edi Gathegi joined a superhero movie was back in 2011, specifically as Darwin in the X-Men: First Class film. Darwin was a mutant who could transform his body into anything he needed to survive his environment.
Despite its super abilities to do so, the filmmakers still killed off this short-lived character, who had the power to contribute largely to the franchise and his team.
That, however, is far different from what Mister Terrific had in store for Gathegi.
Mister Terrific was first introduced in the 2025 Superman flick as a part of the team Justice Gang, where he works with co-heroes, Hawk Girl (played by Isabela Merced) and the Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion).
James Gunn's Superman marks comic history by debuting Mister Terrific in live-action with Gathegi's performance. Beyond his superintelligence and command of his inventions, Mister Terrific grabbed fans' attention now more than ever.
What Can We Expect from Mister Terrific in the New DC Universe?
Even though Superman didn't get the chance to explore the deeper lore behind Mister Terrific's backstory, Gathegi reveals there's going to be more spotlight for the hero in the new DCU.
"There wasn't a lot of room to delve into Mister Terrific's backstory," Gathegi said in a recent interview with Variety, "If we're lucky, we're going to have a lot more opportunities to dig into what Mister Terrific is and who he is. I feel like we've only scratched the surface."
With Gathegi also confirming he's signed up for more projects in the DCU, "the specifics are unknown" to the actor. However, one thing's for sure: as James Gunn promised fans and the studio, he's "never going to rush into production" without the scripts.
"I don't count my chickens before they hatch," Gathegi added, "I want to be involved in this universe in a major way, and whether or not that comes to fruition is just a matter of time and faith and other people's hard work."
