Despite having a different premise from The Big Bang Theory, Chuck Lorre confirmed that Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will also feature high-profile guest stars, much like its predecessor.
In fact, Lorre revealed that simply asking has often been enough to secure celebrity appearances throughout the show's 10-episode season.
“Well, there’s something my mother used to say: ‘You don’t ask, you don’t get.’ So you ask,” Lorre told ComicBook. “You pick up the phone and say, would you please consider. And you prepare it for a no. But every once in a while you make that phone call, and Danny Elfman says, yes. What a gift that was for our show.”
However, landing a celebrity isn't just about asking. The creative team also has to make sure the guest star is the right fit for the story.
“Will it be funny? I don’t want to waste anybody’s time,” Lorre continued. “If they come on the show, are they going to kill it? I mean, are they going to be ruthlessly funny? I want them to succeed so that, God willing, we get another season, they come again.”
So, will the series feature pop culture icons like The Big Bang Theory did? Fortunately, because the show is produced under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella, the creators have easier access to many beloved characters and franchises that appeal to geek culture.
That said, bringing in characters from outside properties can still be complicated, often requiring approvals from rights holders and plenty of legal discussions.
“Marvel wasn’t as challenging as Harvey Comics,” co-creator Bill Prady revealed. “They were very protective of Richie Rich, and there were a lot of conversations to find a sweet spot between something that made the joke work and something they were comfortable with. But we have no instructions from Warner Brothers to limit to things.”
However, Lorre added there might be no chance Green Lantern would appear in the series.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe follows the return of comic book store owner Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman) as he attempts to stop a multiversal Armageddon after accidentally breaking a transdimensional device built by Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki).
Tasked by an alternate-universe version of himself, Stuart must navigate different realities to restore order.
Fortunately, he won't have to do it alone, as he's joined by a ragtag group of underdogs, including his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), geologist Bert (Brian Posehn), and quantum physicist Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie).
