Max is in a coma after facing Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) in Upside Down and being brought back to life by Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). Will’s storyline, alternatively, has a lot of loose ends to tie up, from his sexuality to his resemblance to the younger Vecna, Henry Creel (Raphael Luce). So, what’s next for these two in Stranger Things Season 5?
Stranger Things Season 5 to Focus on Will
The Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross, revealed the new season would finally focus on Will’s storyline.
After being sidelined for most of the fourth season, he would be an integral part of the final season.
In an interview with Collider, Matt said that the fourth season just showed the beginning of Will’s “coming-of-age tale,” and the next season would cover what would happen to his personal journey.
"Will's going to be a big part and focus, is really all I can say of Season 5, in his journey. We're starting to see his coming of age, really,” he said. “Which has been challenging for a number of reasons, some of which are supernatural. But you're starting to see him come into his own."

On the other hand, Ross added Stranger Things Season 5 would complete the “narrative threads” that started in the first season.
"[It's] setting up us coming full circle back to Season 1,” he revealed.
However, aside from Will, it would also apply to the other characters, like Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton).
“All of that is going to play a huge role as we try to wrap this thing up next season,” Ross continued.
Will Stranger Things Season 5 Reveal the Connection Between Will and Vecna?
The very first episode of the series is titled The Vanishing of Will Byers. Early in the show, Will had already formed a connection to Upside Down, seeing the Mind Flayer and later revealing his connection to Vecna when Mike (Finn Wolfhard) asked him if Vecna was already dead.

The Future of Max in Stranger Things Season 5
Meanwhile, another storyline fans want to see in Stranger Things Season 5 is the future of Max.
A poll by Radio Times revealed that 74.5% of the participants believed she would survive and wake up again, while only 25.5% were convinced she would die.
It might be impossible that Eleven brought her back to life to die again. However, Sadie Sink herself had no idea what’s next for her much-loved character.
"I have no idea what's coming in five and what that looks like,” she told Deadline.“Max's storyline is very up in the air, 'cause obviously, she's in a coma, and Eleven can't find her in the void. So who knows where she is and what state she's in."
