The final episodes of the fifth season of Stranger Things are set to release on Netflix during the Christmas and New Year holidays, but fans are wondering what the runtime is so they can plan their binge-watch.
The first four episodes of the hit show's final season were finally released after a three-year wait. It ended on a major cliffhanger, as revealed at the end of Volume One: Will Byers has psychic powers similar to Eleven's. There is now excitement as the show nears its conclusion.
What is the Runtime for the Last Four Episodes of Stranger Things Season 5?
In his recent Instagram post, Stranger Things co-showrunner Ross Duffer revealed the runtime for the last four episodes of the fifth and final season.
It confirmed the rumors and speculation we've heard over the last few months, indicating that the episodes will be over an hour long and promise more epic storytelling in the next batch.
All three episodes in Volume Two, which will be released this Christmas, will run over one hour.
- Chapter Five: Shock Jock - 1 hour and 8 minutes (or 68 minutes)
- Chapter Six: Escape from Camazotz - 1 hour and 15 minutes (or 75 minutes)
- Chapter Seven: The bridge - 1 hour and 6 minutes (or 66 minutes)
Meanwhile, the show's final episode, titled "The Rightside Up," which will be released on New Year's Eve and is scheduled for a limited theatrical release, will have a feature-length runtime of 2 hours and 8 minutes (or 128 minutes). That makes it the show's longest episode this season.
Fans can plan their binge-watch of the last four episodes this holiday season, now that we have an official word on their runtime. All they can hope for is that they will stick the landing.
What Fans Should Expect in the Rest of Stranger Things Season 5?
The remaining episodes in Stranger Things season 5 will address the storylines and twists introduced in the first four episodes.
As we've mentioned, one of the biggest reveals in Volume One is the unlocking of Will's psychic powers, which will be crucial in the upcoming episodes, as we now know that Eleven won't be the only character who could face Vecna.
"One of the earliest ideas in [Season 5] is, ‘What if Will were able to harness this connection and use it against our villains?’ We also felt it very natural to re-center the story on Will," co-showrunner Ross Duffer explained to Tudum. "He was the kid who was taken in Season 1, so it felt right for the story to come full circle. If anyone [was] going to be the key to ending Vecna, it needed to be Will."
Matt Duffer added, "There is a lot that Will has been dealing with over the course of the four seasons before this — so many emotions and inner conflicts that remain unresolved. So we wanted him to grow as a human and become a fully formed version of who he is. And once he’s able to do that, he’s able to harness these incredible powers."
