The CW's The Flash is set to conclude in its upcoming ninth season. It has also been considered as the end of the Arrowverse franchise since it was one of the shows that started a decade ago. Fortunately, as it turns out, it looks like the series won't be saying goodbye without the person that started the Arrowverse itself.
Variety has confirmed that Stephen Amell is returning to reprise the role of Oliver Queen in the ninth and final season of The Flash. He will be appearing in episode 909 alongside other guest stars such as David Ramsey, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Sendhil Ramamurthy.
"As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen. After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen on his heroic path. That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash," executive producer Eric Wallace said in the announcement.
"The result is an epic-yet-emotional episode we hope Arrowverse fans will enjoy. It’s all to say ‘thank you’ to everyone for watching and supporting our show throughout nine wonderful years. We absolutely cannot wait for everyone to see Grant and Stephen saving the world together again. And yes, there will be thrills, chills, and tears."
The report didn't provide details regarding the circumstance of Oliver Queen's return in The Flash. Considering that the character already died in the present-day Arrowverse, an easy guess is that he will appear through flashbacks or they'll uncover secret footage that he recorded before his death.
Nevertheless, it is exciting to hear that Amell will be returning to the series since it felt like he was already done playing the character by the final episode of Arrow. Considering how special his connection is to Grant Gustin's Barry Allen, it also makes sense that they'll bring him back for the show's final run.
