Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's Zorri Bliss might seem like a bounty hun butter, but what Star Wars fans don't know is that the Spice Runner from the planet Kijimi was actually based off a Speed Racer.
Speaking in an interview with Empire to help promote Lucasfilm's new Star Wars movie, Mission: Impossible III actress Keri Russell opens up about her Star Wars character, Zorri Bliss. Though Russel can't really talk that much about what Bliss does in The Rise of Skywalker, she doesn't really mind digging into the character's origin, revealing how the manga Speed Racer inspired Episode IX director J.J. Abrams to create the character.
"There was this female character when JJ was young – I think it was in Speed Racer or something," Russell told the entertainment news outlet, "She rode a motorbike and had this helmet. He goes, 'I could never see her face and I was always obsessed with what she looked like.' That was the genesis of this character because he always wanted to know who she was."
This little reveal makes us wonder whether we'll get to know Zorri Bliss on a more intimate level in The Rise of Skywalker. Will we ever get to see the Spice Runner's actual face, or will Episode IX keep the character shrouded in mystery the same way Speed Racer did with the character Bliss is based on?
There's certainly a whole lot of excitement building up over The Rise of Skywalker. Not only is the movie going to close Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy, but it's also going to culminate the entire Skywalker saga.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
