If you've seen Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, you'll know that J.J. Abrams and co-writer Chris Terrio basically scrapped everything Rian Johnson did in The Last Jedi so that the fans could leave their theaters happier after Johnson's film made so many drastic changes. While it's clear that Abams didn't agree with every decision Johnson made, even if he refuses to admit it, the director clearly liked one thing from the second controversial film of this trilogy.
The Force-Bond between Rey and Kylo Ren. Should we call them Reylo now? Eh, let's not touch that subject today.
While Abrams was quick to throw away Rose Tico, Rey coming from nothing, and all the other cool stuff Johnson set up from his film, at least he kept the Force-Bond between the two, which lets these two speak to each other via, well, The Force. Credit where it's due, I think Abrams actually improves on this bit by having them battle via their Force Bubble and having it affect their surroundings.
See? I can be nice to The Rise of Skywalker.
Honestly, it's just nice to see Abrams and Terrio actually build upon something Johnson laid seeds for, which can't be said for anything else in the movie. While The Rise of Skywalker is flawed, and we mean F L A W E D, it's still an enjoyable cinematic experience if you're part of the crowd that thinks Star Wars is just a series about space wizards. They even brought one of them back for no reason.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now showing in theaters.
