Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been pushed out of an exclusive Disney box office list five years after its theatrical release.
The last installment in the sequel trilogy notably had a divisive reception among both the critics and fans. Despite that, it was still a box office success as it reached the billion-dollar mark and became one of the highest-grossing Disney films of all time in the US.
Disney's box office list remained untouched for the last five years as the studio struggled in the post-COVID-19 era. Now, it has changed thanks to a new juggernaut that is currently ruling the theatrical space.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Plummets Off Disney's Top 10 All-Time US Box Office List
According to The Numbers, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is no longer part of Disney's top 10 all-time US box office list. It has been dethroned to no. 11.
It's all thanks to Inside Out 2's ongoing box-office performance as it now has grossed $534 million domestically, and is currently placed at no. 9. in the all-time list.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has also been usurped due to the Pixar sequel's box-office performance and is now placed at no. 10.
The Rise of Skywalker's plummeting from the box-office list is more indicative of Inside Out 2's performance as it showed how the Pixar sequel is a massive juggernaut and managed to break records in an era where the theatrical business is facing tumultuous challenges.
Regardless of whether the film is part of Disney's top 10 box office list or not, The Rise of Skywalker's legacy has been set and most fans today still remember it is a polarizing conclusion to the sequel trilogy.
It is curious to see whether upcoming Star Wars films such as The Mandalorian and Grogu will be able to make it on the list when they get released.
