Besides the release of Star Wars Episode IX, a lot of people are excited to see what kind of show Jon Favreau's Star Wars: The Mandalorian is going to be like. Making Star Wars' Jason Ward has been sneaking up on the set of the show, and he posts this sketch of a customized Astromech droid which looks like it can actually fight.
Check out this sketch:
While your typical astro droid isn't very mobile, this one looks interesting in the sense that its legs have been replaced with arms, and he's installed two actual legs. We don't know if this is just a background character for the series, but I imagine they'll need a lot of CG or complicated puppetry to keep him moving onscreen.
If anything, I think this droid will be in cahoots with IG-88 and both of them will be affiliated with ‘The Droid Gotra' an in-canon collective of droids in the Star Wars universe which is said to be making an appearance in the show.
What's also funny is, in Solo: A Star Wars Story, L3-37's arms come from an astromech droid, and now we have an astro droid that has new arms and legs installed on it. I'm not saying it's the same droid that L3's parts come from. I'm just saying it's a fun coincidence.
No official release date has been set for Star Wars: The Mandalorian, but it's expected to debut on Disney+ sometime later this year.
