Star Wars: The Mandalorian Will Be Releasing Episodes One At A Time

There's a lot of anticipation building up over Star Wars: The Mandalorian. Created by Iron Man and The Lion King director Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian is Lucasfilm's first live-action series being developed for Disney's upcoming streaming site, Disney+.

The series is set to focus on the adventures of a lone Mandalorian warrior being played by Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal and its various episodes are being directed by some pretty big names including Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels showrunner, Dave Filoni, Jessica Jones Deborah Chow, Rick Famuyiwa, Jurassic World franchise star Bryce Dallas Howard, and Thor: Ragnarok Taika Waititi.

Now, adding hype to The Mandalorian's highly-anticipated release, Jon Favreau made time to speak with Variety and discuss his approach to the series. Unlike Netflix series which are usually released all at once, The Mandalorian's episodes would be released one at a time.

"Well, first of all, you have to treat it like you're making a movie for the big screen," Favreau told the entertainment news outlet at this year's D23 Expo, "The fact of the matter is that, if you look at Lion King, for example, we were very cognizant that, as many people are seeing it in the theaters, there are gonna be more people seeing it at home. And everybody has these beautiful 16 by 9 flatscreen TVs and you wanna create beautiful imagery that takes advantage of what people have. The Mandalorian, whether you watch it on your TV or if you saw it projected, it should feel just as much like Star Wars as any of the features."

This format might not be that great for streamers who're used to binge-watching shows, but it will certainly help fans pace themselves and keep themselves interested in the series. There's going to be a lot of talk about The Mandalorian week after week, giving fans time to properly digest the show. Not a bad idea, if you ask me.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian premieres on Disney+ on November 12, 2019.
