Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Rian Johnson ‘Melts’ Over The Rise Of Skywalker Teaser Trailer

There was a whole lot of excitement when Lucasfilm held its Star Wars: Episode IX panel at the 2019 Star Wars Celebration Chicago today. Not only did the studio bring in the film's main cast and crew, but it also dropped the highly anticipated teaser trailer for the third and final film in the sequel trilogy.

Star Wars fans weren't the only ones who went crazy over Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's trailer release though. Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson was also keeping an eye on Episode IX's panel at this year's Star Wars Celebration, and according to the filmmaker when he saw the teaser video for The Rise of Skywalker, he just "melted back into being a happy kid."

Taking to Twitter, Johnson gushed over the teaser video, telling his followers that he loves everything about the trailer and that if anyone needs him he'll be "spending the rest of the day dreamily."

Check out the tweet down here:

Ever since the trailer's release fans have been wondering how The Rise of Skywalker would follow Johnson's film, The Last Jedi. Would J.J. Abrams retcon the origin that Johnson built for Rey (Daisy Ridley), turning her into the daughter of two drunk junkers on Jakku? Would Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) finally get together?

Despite its commercial and critical success, The Last Jedi has received a lot of rap from a vocal minority who hate how the film handled legacy characters like Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and how the film attempted at subverting fan expectations. However, while these fans continue complaining about the sequel to The Force Awakens, many forget that the film added depth to our knowledge of the Force and that it took the franchise to new directions.

We can't wait to see where The Rise of Skywalker is going to take us next.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres on December 20, 2019.
