A new rumor has suggested that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew might air as a one-shot series and not get renewed for season 2.

Later this year, the long-in-the-works Star Wars series will finally premiere on Disney+. Set in the MandoVerse timeline, it will focus on a group of young characters and a mysterious Force-user played by Jude Law.

In the aftermath of the abrupt cancellation of The Acolyte, fans have been wondering whether Skeleton Crew will end up being an ongoing series or if Lucasfilm might pull the plug after airing its first season.

New Rumor Claims Star Wars: Skeleton Crew May Not Get Season 2 Renewal

Insider Daniel Richtman claimed in his recent post on X that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will run as a limited series.

In other words, the series won't likely get renewed for season 2 and it will stay as a one-shot show that hopefully has a complete story.

So far, Lucasfilm has not commented on the plans for Skeleton Crew beyond the eight-episode first season.

If it ends up being true, it is concerning news about the upcoming series as it suggests that it might follow the footsteps of The Acolyte and it won't be an ongoing series that fans will follow for the next few years.

However, there is still a possibility that the series will get a season 2 if it ends up becoming a massive hit when it airs later this year and there is widespread demand from fans to let it run for multiple seasons.

It could also be dependent on what showrunners Jon Watts and Christopher Ford have in store for the series and whether they wrote the first season as either a complete story or has the potential to be extended for more seasons and explore more adventures.

For now, let's wait and see what the show's fate will be after the first season airs, but The Acolyte has set a precedent for its potential abrupt run if it has a similar reception.

The first two episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew are set to premiere on Disney+ this December 3.
