Star Wars’ Pablo Hidalgo Points Out Never Before Spotted Mistake In Empire Strikes Back

Most Star Wars fans might name Star Wars: Episode V – Empire Strikes Back as their favorite Star Wars movie of all time, but that doesn't mean that the film is in all ways perfect.

In fact, Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo just recently spotted a small goof in the movie that most fans have yet to notice. Taking to Twitter earlier this week, Hidalgo posted side-by-side images of Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) lightsaber in Empire Strikes Back. In the left side, Hidalgo's followers get to see a shot from the film where you barely get to see "New York" written on the bottom of the lightsaber. On the image in the right, the original prop is made visible, showing the writing at the bottom of the saber before it was covered up.

"I've noted this before, but every time I watch a Star Wars movie, there's something new to notice. Especially if I'm fortunate to catch it on the big screen. This latest discovery? that 'NEW YORK' is visible on the bottom of Luke's lightsaber in EMPIRE," Hidalgo wrote on his tweet.

Check it out down here:

While some might have caught the error along with the Lucasfilm Story group Member, others might not see the mistake as clearly. Most Star Wars fans are pretty surprised that Hidalgo found this tiny little error in the first place. It's even more surprising that this tiny little mistake was just noticed now – Star Wars fans are usually pretty meticulous when it comes to rewatching Star Wars films.

Lucasfilm's next entry, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, premieres December 20, 2019.
