Star Wars Fans Likely to Forgive The Rise of Skywalker’s Mistakes Sooner Than the Prequels

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker might have become one of the most divisive films in the Skywalker saga, however, analysts believe that the third and final film in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy is likely to receive a warmer reception than the Star Wars prequels.

According to a theory by Screen Rant, Star Wars fans are going to look at Episode IX with more forgiveness in the coming years than they had done with the Star Wars prequel trilogy in the 2000s. A lot of the hatred for The Rise of Skywalker stems from the overwhelming disappointment fans felt for the movie.

The Rise of Skywalker was supposed to serve as the culmination of the entire Skywalker saga, and so fans couldn't help but expect a grand and cohesive narrative that would serve as a proper end to the Skywalker story.

Unfortunately, the film became too focused on generating fan-service than actual storytelling, and so Episode IX became one of the most contentious films in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy – perhaps even more controversial than the critically-acclaimed Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

However, as disappointing as The Rise of Skywalker was, Screen Rant posits that fans are more likely to come to terms with the film than with the prequels. According to the site, Lucasfilm has the means necessary to improve the story with ancillary canon. Sure, the novelization of Episode IX might be generating more questions than answers, but Lucasfilm can always fix issues in future movies, Disney+ series, novels, and comics.
