Surprising news met Star Wars fans earlier today. Despite the anticipation building up over their new project now that the Skywalker saga is coming to an end with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, HBO's Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have decided to leave the trilogy they were supposed to make.
Sending out a statement, Benioff and Weiss revealed that they had decided to exit the upcoming Star Wars project because of "scheduling conflicts" and because of Netflix. Now, Star Wars fans are taking to social media to respond to the announcement.
Posting on Twitter, Star Wars fans have been sharing their reaction to the news regarding Weiss and Benioff's exit from their Star Wars project. Not only are fans confused to see the two decide to leave the franchise, they're also pretty disappointed. Game of Thrones has been more or less a success despite the issues that came with its final season, and fans were hoping to see the showrunners bring the same kind of success into the Star Wars franchise.

We can understand why fans would be confused by the news. The Game of Thrones writers had reportedly rushed the final season of the series so that they could begin working on their new project. Everyone thought that the "project" was the showrunner's upcoming Star Wars trilogy. Turns out, it isn't. Benioff and Weiss have instead decided to put their hearts into their new Netflix series.
