Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse comes swinging into cinemas this Friday, and it looks like the film is tracking for a pretty good haul at the box office during its opening weekend.
According to Deadline, the box office metrics for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse says that Sony Animation's highly anticipated animated comic book movie could earn anywhere between a ballpark of $30million to $35 million during its opening – a pretty great start during the holiday season. It's very hard to make moviegoing a priority during the holidays unless the film is a major blockbuster like Star Wars: The Last Jedi or something from Marvel, but the publication notes that interest for Into the Spider-Verse is strong among families as well as African American and Hispanic demographics.
While the $30 to $35 million opening might not seem much in comparison to Wreck-It Ralph 2:Ralph Breaks the Internet's $56 million opening, there's been a lot of great reviews for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and now the film sits with a 99% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. With strong word of mouth, this unique and beautifully designed animated film could exceed expectations and earn higher than expected.
Hopefully, the film does well on its first day because we definitely want to see more of the Spider-Verse in future sequels and spinoffs.
Here's the synopsis for the movie:
"Bitten by a radioactive spider, teenager Miles Morales suddenly develops mysterious powers that transform him into Spider-Man. He must now use his newfound skills to battle the Kingpin, a hulking madman who can open portals to other dimensions."
We can't wait to see Miles and the other Spider-Men and Women run around in Into the Spider-Verse.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse premieres December 14, 2018.
