  • Quick Answer: Sadie Sink plays a highly secretive, mysterious character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with rumors suggesting she might be playing the X-Men's Jean Grey.

Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal has compared the mystery surrounding Sadie Sink's character in Brand New Day to the secrecy surrounding Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's appearances in No Way Home while teasing the film.

Just weeks before the fourth Spider-Man movie's release, details about the Stranger Things star's character remain tightly under wraps.

With the secrecy drawing comparisons to Maguire and Garfield's surprise returns in No Way Home, here's what Pascal had to say about keeping Sink's role a mystery.

The prevailing theory is that Sadie Sink is playing the X-Men's Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

While her character has been described as a "mysterious figure" with an unknown true identity who is "lurking in the shadows" with uncertain allegiance and has already appeared in the trailer, her role remains shrouded in secrecy.

The situation has drawn comparisons to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Although rumors of their return as Spider-Man were widespread, neither actor's appearance was officially confirmed until the film premiered in theaters.

According to producer Amy Pascal, the strict secrecy surrounding Sink's character is meant to keep audiences guessing for as long as possible.

"When we had the three Spideys in the last movie, and it was the worst-kept secret in Hollywood, everybody sort of pretended not to know, but knew," she told SFX magazine (via GamesRadar). "I think people love to be surprised. They don't really want to know everything. They want the experience of what movies give you, which is shock and awe and surprise. So I think in the same way that we've been really disciplined, I think that's what the audience is also craving."

Sadie Sink's role isn't just a secret to fans. In fact, she didn't receive a copy of her script until she arrived in London for filming. She didn’t even go through an audition and was just offered the role.

Despite the intense secrecy, The Whale star said she didn't have a difficult time keeping her character under wraps.

"You just don't share the secret; it's not that hard," she told Nylon. "I knew that Marvel was a big deal and had a big brand, especially Spider-Man. I know there's a huge fan base, but it feels really big. I think these blockbuster movies are a whole different beast."

Fortunately, Tom Holland, who plays the titular Spider-Man, helped her ease into the MCU.

"It was interesting stepping into that space and being a little bit of an outsider in that way, but he could not have been more welcoming, and just the whole crew in general. He was just so relaxed and open, and I felt very at ease," she continued.

Fans will finally learn Sink's official role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day when the film hits theaters on July 31.
