Topher Grace might have played Eddie Brock in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 back in 2007, but the actor admits that Tom Hardy actually seems better suited for the role in the many different trailers for Sony's upcoming Spider-Man spinoff movie, Venom.
Speaking in an interview with Inverse while at BlacKkKlansman's press junket in Manhattan last week, Grace isn't afraid to admit that Hardy actually plays a better Venom than he did when he took on the role of Eddie Brock in Spider-Man 3.
Grace loved reading the Spider-Man comics as a child, and according to the actor, he knew that his thin frame didn't quite resemble the brawny Eddie Brock that he'd gotten to know in the comics. Sure he had been happy that he had been cast in the role in Spider-Man 3, but now he's excited to see Hardy's version of Venom because the English actor definitely has the build for the Eddie Brock that he grew up with.
"I was thrilled because I was such a fan of the character, but I was aware of how it was different from what I had grown up reading," Grace acknowledged during the interview. "I thought it was cool, but I'm really excited to see [Tom Hardy's version]. That's the character I grew up with."
However, while Hardy definitely seems suited to be Eddie Brock, some fans still have concerns regarding Sony's upcoming Venom movie. One of these concerns includes the appearance of Peter Parker (Tom Holland) – there can't be a Venom without Spider-Man really. Though Sony insists that the web-slinger won't be around, fans are still hoping that there'll be a small cameo for Peter in the anti-hero's movie.
Venom makes its big premiere on October 5.
