Katy Perry was part of the all-women crew launched into space aboard the Blue Origin rocket on Monday, but skeptics claim that the entire event was a hoax.

Blue Origin’s NS-31 successfully carried Perry and five others beyond Earth’s atmosphere and past the Kármán line, allowing them to experience a few moments of weightlessness.

However, some have compared the mission to the moon landing, which they continue to label as suspicious and a “Hollywood fake.”

Skeptics Believe Katy Perry’s Blue Origin Flight Was Faked

Katy Perry has become the target of online conspiracy theorists after participating in Jeff Bezos’ New Shepard mission, which allowed her and four other women to travel through space.

On April 14, the press and spectators watched live from the launch station in West Texas as the Blue Origin NS-31 rocket was blasted into the air, reaching an altitude of 107 km before returning to Earth.

Perry, who didn’t let the opportunity pass to sing Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World during the trip, was joined by high-profile women such as Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sánchez and CBS Mornings presenter Gayle King.

Skeptics did not believe the entire event was real, however, as they claimed the footage from the mission was filmed in a Hollywood studio. A user posted this on X:

“The fact they’re sending Katy Perry and Bezos’ wife is the best evidence ‘space exploration is fake’ one could ever imagine.”

“The Katy Perry butterfly thing in space looks so fake. Did they CGI the butterfly flying away???” another skeptic said.

Those who also doubt the legitimacy of Neil Armstrong's moon landing in 1969 compared it to Perry’s trip. One user wrote on X:

“Katy Perry going to space is about as authentic as the moon landing! #KatyPerry #KATYPERRYINSPACE.”

Additionally, some accused the California Gurls singer of being in a satanic cult and claimed she performed a ritual by exploring space with the crew:

“Katy Perry, one of the biggest industry occult promoters, is one of the signs this is fake,” an X user claimed.

Others have also linked the goat demon Baphomet to the NS-31 patches seen on the crew’s suits:

“Katy Perry is a known Satan worshipper. They are all wearing Satan-worshipping labels on their space outfits.”

Of course, nothing has been proven in these controversies, and neither Perry nor the space program has addressed the wild allegations.

Why Blue Origin Has Made Space Travel with High-Profile Figures Its Goal

The all-female crew that flew to space this Monday garnered global attention and drew mixed reactions from the public.

Some were in awe, while others criticized the mission for wasting resources and harming the environment. Of course, there were also those who remained skeptical about how credible the 11-minute space tour actually was.

Part of the reason online theorists claim Perry’s trip to space was staged is because they couldn’t understand why a Hollywood singer would be chosen to join the NS-31 crew.

In reality, Blue Origin CEO Jeff Bezos has made it his goal to make space travel more accessible. On its official page, the company outlines its mission objectives as: “Radically reduce the cost of access to space, as well as harness its vast resources and inspire and mobilize future generations.”

Granted, that vision is still far from being realized, as the cost of space travel remains extremely high.

Perry also likely wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to experience near-zero gravity, especially since she mentioned on Instagram that she's "dreamt of going to space for 15 years.” Her fascination with science, as seen in her previous interviews, seems to back that up.

The Firework singer was also seen promoting her Lifetime world tour, holding up a butterfly-shaped card showing her setlist in front of the camera while in space.

Aside from Perry, King, and Sánchez, the crew also included former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, and producer Kerianne Flynn.
