Snow White star Rachel Zegler recently reflected on the backlash over her casting as the iconic Disney character.
After numerous delays, the highly anticipated live-action remake of the Disney animated classic will finally be released next month. Zegler will play the princess, who is the fairest of them all.
Rachel Zegler Addresses Snow White Casting Backlash
In a recent interview, Zegler addressed the backlash over her casting as Snow White when her involvement in the project was first announced.
She explained that she saw the negative reactions as fans' passion for the iconic character and she gave her best in her portrayal of the Disney princess.
"I interpret people’s feelings about this film as a passion for it. What an honor to be part of something that people feel so passionate about," the actress said.
"We’re not always going to have the same feelings as everyone around us, and all we can do is give the best of ourselves."
Zegler also explained that Disney found a way to have the remake appeal to both fans of the original 1937 animated classic and the new generation of audiences.
"It’s very important for the public to know that Disney has found this beautiful and delicate balance between the animated classic that everyone knows and loves from 1937, and at the same time, introduces it to this new generation," she said.
"There is no supernatural power that Snow White possesses beyond her love for humanity, for all living creatures, and her fundamental belief that there is goodness in everything. That’s something I really believe the world could take advantage of more."
