Emmy-winning Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein just joined the cast of Shrinking season 2 for a major recurring role that will shake up Jimmy Laird's world.
While he already serves as a co-creator/executive producer and writer for the series, this is the first time he is stepping in front of the camera. Fans have been excited to see what he has in store for his acting role.
Who is Brett Goldstein Playing in Shrinking Season 2?
When Goldstein's casting for Shrinking season 2 was first announced, the details regarding the role that he is playing were being kept under wraps.
Now that the second season has premiered its first two episodes, we finally know his role in the hit series.
In the final moments of the season 2 premiere episode, it was revealed that Goldstein is playing the role of Louis, the drunk driver who killed Jimmy's wife Tia in an accident.
Unlike his iconic Ted Lasso character Roy Kent, Goldstein appeared clean-shaved and showed a different acting side that we've never seen before.
He showed up in Jimmy's office asking if they could talk. However, Jimmy got triggered and yelled at him to get out.
Goldstein's Louis showed up briefly again in the second episode when Alice was spying on his house and appeared to be living alone.
Alice decided to check on him after Jimmy told her about their encounter in the office and was encouraged by her therapists to write a letter where she expressed her anger.
Jason Segel Explains Brett Goldstein's Acting Role in Shrinking Season 2
In a recent interview, Segel explained why he fought for Goldstein to play a darker role in Shrinking season 2 after co-creator/executive producer Bill Lawrence initially shot down the idea.
"I knew, secretly, that he wanted to play that part and I knew he would kill it. I have a lot of experience being Marshall Eriksen [in How I Met Your Mother] and then working to have people see me as other characters," he said.
"I know he probably deals with that as Roy Kent, so I just wanted to be the voice to say no, do something totally different, let’s break that now. And he’s amazing in the show."
Based on his brief appearances in the first two episodes, it certainly felt like Goldstein took a step into uncharted territory in his acting side and it's exciting to see how it plays out for the rest of the season.
