An internet celebrity has recently lost her life to gun violence.

Valeria Márquez, a 23-year-old Mexican woman known for creating beauty, lifestyle, and entrepreneurship content, was fatally shot during her livestream on May 13.

According to the attorney general’s report, the suspect entered Márquez’s Blossom the Beauty Lounge Salon in Jalisco at around 6:30 PM.

In the video that captured the tragic incident, she appeared to be looking off into the distance shortly beforehand.

A voice, not visible on camera, could be heard asking, “Hey, are you Valeria?” to which Márquez replied, “Yes,” before muting the live broadcast.

After firing three shots at Márquez, the man reportedly fled the scene on a motorbike.

Based on the livestream, a fan had told Márquez’s friend, Erika, that he would visit the salon during the stream to give Marquez a gift.

Though Erika’s identity remains unclear, she was the one who encouraged Márquez to wait for the gift, describing it as “expensive.”

Juan José Frangie, the Mayor of Zapopan, informed reporters that Márquez had never sought help from authorities prior to the shooting, despite receiving death threats.

However, earlier in Márquez’s livestream, she had made an unsettling remark: “Dude, they might’ve been about to kill me.”

“It’s incredible that you’re making a video and then you’re murdered. A femicide is the worst thing,” the mayor said.

Márquez is among the victims of suspected femicide. Just days earlier, another similar crime claimed the life of Yesenia Lara Gutierrez, a mayoral candidate who was shot dead at a campaign event.

Márquez’s case marks the eighth investigated femicide in Jalisco.

Who Was Valeria Márquez?

Márquez was a popular content creator who had around 113,000 followers on Instagram and 70,000 on TikTok, thanks to the beauty tips and secrets she shared with her audience.

Shortly after gaining popularity, she opened her Blossom Beauty Lounge salon in Zapopan, a place where she not only offered hair, nail, and eyelash treatments, but also regularly streamed to her followers.
