The smash hit work-life balance horror series will be back on Apple TV+, but when exactly? Find out when the release date for Severance season 2 is here!
The production for the Ben Stiller-helmed dystopia show was held back in 2022, but with filming starting right up in 2024, this brings fans to question whether we can expect episodes to air.
Well, here's everything you need to know about Severance season 2.
Severance Season 2 Release Date Predictions
Severance season 2 was finally greenlit one week before season 1 finale aired on Apple TV+.
While filming for season 2 began in 2022, production was unfortunately shut down amid the WGA strike in 2023, which is one of the main reasons several movies and TV show productions got delayed previously.
Apple TV+ recently released a couple of teasers for their new and returning series, including Dark Matter, Presumed Innocent, Lady in the Lake, Pachinko, and even new clips for Severance season 2.
Sadly, the teaser does not come with an official release date yet, so fans will have to sit back and wait until they get their own trailer. However, this does spark hope that we're getting one soon.
The short clip shows Adam Scott's Mark walking back into the office, where he is welcomed by Tramell Tillman's Milchik with a couple of blue balloons.
In another, he is waking up in different outfits and locations in the office which may imply yet another rigorous experiment season 2 will highlight on his return.
The last update was from Ben Stiller, aka show helmer, who shared a joint post on Instagram with the caption, "Back to work", while the other was when costume designer Carol Deelay announced they had wrapped up filming season 2 in April.
However, with filming only starting again in January 2024, this could mean expecting the series to return sometime in 2025, at the earliest.
Potential Issues Severance Season 2 May Face
Well, considering that the filming for Severance season 2 got delayed due to the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, that's one of the main reasons why the series is taking too long to return on Apple TV+.
Since it has been two years since their production began, they most likely had to start from scratch in January. Stiller addressed this by saying that season 2 will be out "soon."
"It's coming soon and we don't have an actual date, but I've been working on the second season of it for a long time since we had a strike last year," Stiller said, "So that cut us off for a while."
However, he did confirm that they'd be "shooting until probably like the end of April", which was accurate. Now, all we have to do is sit back and wait for the official release date of season 2.
What Would Be the Severance Season 2 Story About?
As if Severance season 1 wasn't dramatic enough, season 2 is about to become more intense, with Helly sabotaging a major business event while discovering her father Mr. Eagan's larger part to play at Lumon.
Mark tells his sister about finding out that his presumably dead wife Gemma is still alive, working at Lumon, with Gemma's main motive remaining unknown for now.
"Was Mark targeted because of his relationship with Gemma, or was it the other way around?" Mark actor Adam Scott teased about his character's bombshell ending, "And that's something that we don't see this season, but we will see in subsequent seasons."
As for Stiller, well, while the show creator already has "an end point in mind", he admitted he "didn't plan it season by season" and hopes to build the story in two or six seasons.
So, we'll have to wait and see what Severance season 2 has in store with a trailer, hopefully soon enough.
