Former Harry Potter actor Sean Biggerstaff has added his voice to the growing number of cast members criticizing J.K. Rowling for promoting anti-trans views on social media.
Following a series of controversial posts from the author, Biggerstaff, who played Oliver Wood in the films, took to X to compare J.K. Rowling to another polarizing figure: Andrew Tate.
Former Harry Potter Star Sean Biggerstaff Slams JK Rowling’s Trans Court Victory Celebration
J.K. Rowling continues to divide the Wizarding World with her online statements against a trans activist group, and Sean Biggerstaff’s recent posts show which side he’s supporting.
The Harry Potter alum called the author an “obsessed billionaire” and reposted a tweet featuring Rowling’s photo smoking a cigar, captioned by someone with: “Lol, huffing on a cigar now? Is she Andrew Tate?”
Tate is known for making “motivational” posts in a misogynistic tone that often draws public backlash, though he also uses this attention to make money.
Rowling became the subject of these comparisons after sharing selfies taken on a yacht, holding a cigar and a cocktail, as she celebrated the UK Supreme Court’s ruling that trans women are legally men, not women.
The selfie was captioned: “I love it when a plan comes together,” referring to last week’s judgment that the terms “woman” and “sex” in the 2010 Equality Act are to be defined as “biological woman” and “biological sex.”
Lord Hodge delivered the ruling, assuring that equality for all groups remains intact. He affirmed that no favoritism was involved and that protection for transgender individuals against discrimination is still in place.
The campaign group For Women Scotland, which has long challenged the Scottish government’s definition of “woman,” is also known to have financial backing from Rowling.
“It took three extraordinary, tenacious Scottish women with an army behind them to get this case heard by the Supreme Court and, in winning, they've protected the rights of women and girls across the UK. @ForWomenScot, I’m so proud to know you,” she posted on X.
Sean Biggerstaff’s Savage Responses to JK Rowling's Posts Against Trans Activists
Scottish actor Sean Biggerstaff has been actively responding to posts targeting transgender individuals on X, including those from the creator of the Harry Potter franchise, in which he once starred.
When Rowling was criticized for “smoking a blunt” aboard a luxury yacht after posting a photo with a cigar, she clarified that she was simply smoking a “cigar” to celebrate a “women’s win.” Biggerstaff then savagely responded: “Bigotry rots the wit.”
The children’s book author also posted on the same day, “In case it wasn't clear: don’t f*** with Scottish women,” alongside a photo of the For Women Scotland co-directors.
Biggerstaff fired back with: “The majority of Scottish women, who don’t agree with these d***heads, aren’t being bankrolled by an obsessed billionaire.”
His 57,000 followers also saw his reply to a Rowling supporter who wrote, “Wonder how these disloyal bags of s**t are doing today?”
The theatre artist replied: “You don’t have to wonder. You know what they’re doing — leading happy and successful lives, having not driven their families away with their hateful obsessions.”
Biggerstaff also posted: “Today is just a torrent of people being willfully simple-minded. A performance of pragmatism to cloak their instinctive distaste for the Other,” in response to the tweet: “How it needed a judge to say a man is a man and a woman is a woman is just bizarre..”
