David Arquette is set to reprise the role of Dewey Riley in Scream 7 despite the character already meeting his demise in the fifth installment.

The upcoming film will mark the return of Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott after skipping the previous installment. Kevin Williamson, who wrote the first four films, will serve as the director.

Reports confirmed that David Arquette will be returning as Dewey Riley in Scream 7. It is unknown yet how the character's comeback will play into the story.

This is shocking news for fans of the franchise since the fan-favorite character notably met his demise in the fifth installment after a noble sacrifice.

The speculation right now is the character might return through a dream sequence or hallucination. For now, the details are currently under wraps.

While Dewey's return might be baffling, this will give fans the opportunity to see the original trio (Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, Dewey Riley) to potentially share the screen together again.

What to Expect in Scream 7

As expected, the plot details regarding Scream 7 are currently being kept under wraps. Production is currently ongoing.

Aside from Campbell, the other cast members from the previous films that are also set to return are Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Roger L. Jackson.

The new cast members include Joel McHale (who will play Sidney's husband), Isabel May (who is cast to play Sidney's daughter), Anna Camp, Mark Consuelos, Ethan Embry, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O'Connor, and Sam Rechner.

Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley are also set to reprise their roles from the previous films despite their characters already being killed off as well. Just like Arquette's Dewey, it is unknown how they will be brought back in the upcoming film.

Scream 7 is slated for release in theaters on February 27, 2026.
