San Diego Comic-Con is set to be a major event for comic culture enthusiasts this year, and recent updates about the event are surely adding to the excitement.
So, if this is your first time attending or you’re a seasoned participant, here’s everything you need to know about this year’s SDCC!
San Diego Comic-Con 2025: Schedule and Location Details
San Diego, California, is the usual home of the popular comic convention that welcomes individuals who celebrate all things comics, gaming, series, movies, and more. The annual event typically takes place in July, sometimes extending into early August.
This year, SDCC will run from July 24 to July 27. The four-day event will be held at the San Diego Convention Center.
How to Attend San Diego Comic-Con 2025
The biggest comic convention in the U.S. requires a Member ID before you can purchase a ticket, or in Comic-Con terms, a badge.
To purchase a badge, first-time attendees need to access the Member ID portal, register a long-term email address, and wait for a verification email. Fortunately, those who participated in the 2024 Comic-Con do not need to go through this process again.
However, given how popular the event has been over the past decade, it is not surprising that all badges for this year’s convention sold out quickly last year.
For those interested in attending SDCC 2026, badge sales will begin this fall, according to the official website.
How to Prepare for San Diego Comic-Con 2025
Purchasing a ticket is one thing, but this massive event can quickly become overwhelming, and you may lose access to conveniences like hotel reservations in no time.
Below are some tips detailing the typical dates when reservations or updates become available each year. You can follow this guide to enjoy the full SDCC experience in 2025:
1. Book a Hotel
Hotels near the convention center tend to get fully booked at an alarming rate starting in April. It is recommended that you secure a hotel in the airport area or Mission Valley before spring. Sales for downtown hotels, which are closer to the convention, usually open in spring.
Keep in mind that general hotel reservations typically involve a lottery process, meaning your assigned hotel is random, and it is up to you whether to pay a deposit for it.
2. Reserve a Parking Space
Attendees traveling by car from farther locations will need a parking space. Like hotel reservations, parking also usually follows a lottery system.
3. Check Out the Exhibitor List
In a convention as massive as SDCC, planning which exhibitors to visit can help prevent feeling overwhelmed. Based on previous events, details about floor plans, exhibitors, and their booth locations typically become available between June and July.
4. Wait for Your Badge
If an attendee meets the requirements—registered for the event, has a U.S. primary shipping address, and completed verification before the deadline—badges may be shipped in advance, usually between May and June. However, they often arrive around three to four weeks before the event.
5. Stay Updated on Panel Schedules
The full panel schedule is usually available about two weeks before the convention. The website will provide access to MySchedule, which allows you to plan your schedule and print a list of panel times to share with friends or use as a guide during the event.
6. Enter Exclusive Portals
Suppose you want to purchase limited-edition merchandise from major brands like Funko or exclusive autographs. In that case, you can attempt to win a lottery through the Exclusives Portal, which usually opens in late June or July.
7. Attend the Event
Get ready for another exciting experience with your fandom and enjoy the energy of the biggest comic convention in San Diego!
What to Expect From San Diego Comic-Con 2025
San Diego Comic-Con is a fantastic hub of new information, where participants are among the first to learn about the latest updates on their favorite franchises.
There is no clear news yet on what to expect at this year’s SDCC, as the complete schedule has not been released.
However, some entertainment companies have already announced if they will showcase their most anticipated series or movies at the convention.
Fans have also predicted some of the most notable upcoming shows that might be featured. Here are a few:
Marvel Studios
Marvel stole the show last year with the reveal of Doctor Doom, who will be portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. in Avengers: Doomsday.
This year, Comic-Con International may feature a special panel on the next Avengers movie, where the full cast will be revealed along with a Comic-Con exclusive teaser.
Additionally, a Fantastic Four: First Steps panel is expected, where attendees could watch the cast discuss the movie and view previews.
Marvel fans may also be in for a treat, as many believe that more details about Phase 6 of the MCU will be unveiled at the upcoming SDCC.
Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender
The popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender will reportedly celebrate its 20th anniversary at SDCC 2025!
This is also the perfect opportunity to promote the third part of the series, Avatar: The Seven Heavens, and the movie Aang: The Last Airbender, which is slated for release in 2026.
Exclusive merchandise and giveaways are expected, but details about panels for the movie and the original voice actors have yet to be announced.
DC Studios
There are no “major plans” for DC Studios at this year’s Comic-Con, despite James Gunn’s Superman making waves last year, as he told The Hollywood Reporter.
However, there is a possibility that the hit series Peacemaker will have a panel at the convention, given that its second season premieres this August.
