Oscar-winning actor Sam Rockwell made a surprise cameo appearance in the recent episode of The White Lotus season 4 where he delivered an outrageous monologue that fans will remember for the ages.
The hit HBO show's current season has been full of twists and turns with surprise revelations on the characters and unexpected cameos from well-known actors whether it's through voice roles or on-screen roles in the case of Rockwell.
Sam Rockwell Appears in The White Lotus Season 4 Episode 5
Rockwell showed up in the recently aired episode 5 of The White Lotus season 4 titled "Full-Moon Party" as Frank, a friend of Rick who he met in Bangkok.
The two friends met in a restaurant to reunite and for Rick to ask his old friend a favor. However, Frank has been sober for months and is now more focused on his spirituality.
Frank went on to deliver a memorable and hilarious monologue as he shared his story on why he decided to live in Thailand.
The character recalled his partying days when he arrived in Thailand and admits that he chose the country as he "always had a thing for Asian girls." He also hired a ladyboy for sex which he described as "magical" and started dressing up like an Asian girl himself and having sex with random white men to fulfill a fantasy.
After a wild sex and party phase, Frank became "insatiable" and he started to ask himself the value of having the desire to have sex with different women.
Rockwell's character concluded, "We all have our Achilles heel. Why are some of us attracted to the opposite form? Sex is a poetic act, it’s a metaphor." Then, he started practicing Buddhism and committed to being sober.
The Oscar winner's cameo came as a surprise for viewers since his involvement was not announced before the airing of the episode. However, he does have a connection with one of the cast members: his long-time partner Leslie Bibb. who plays Kate.
Walton Goggins on Sam Rockwell's Surprise The White Lotus Cameo
In an interview, Walton Goggins, who plays Rick, praised his friend Sam Rockwell's cameo appearance in the episode as he called him "one of my best friends in the world."
He shared that the Oscar winner delivered the monologue exactly as it was scripted.
"I will say that that monologue was word for word. That’s what Mike [White] wrote, and he wrote it all just like that. It is one of the greatest monologues I’ve ever read in my life," Goggins said.
"Sam is not only my best friend, he’s one of my heroes. He trusts me and I trust him and... we have this symbiotic kind of listening relationship, so he’s going through it and I’m going through it and listening for the first time every time and it changes my reactions."
Goggins also called filming the scene with Rockwell "some of the best times that I had making The White Lotus."
