Ryan Reynolds has recently reacted to the news that Neil Patrick Harris will voice Deadpool in an upcoming video game. Whether he thinks it’s a fitting role for the comedian or not, Reynolds made his thoughts clear in a YouTube video.
How Did Ryan Reynolds React to Neil Patrick Harris’ Deadpool in Deadpool VR?
When it comes to playing Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool, there’s no one who can pull off the role quite like Ryan Reynolds.
Although there are some great Merc with a Mouth impersonators out there, fans have grown used to Reynolds' delivery of Deadpool's snappy lines and off-the-cuff humor.
In fact, Reynolds has become so closely associated with the character that even well-known impersonators tend to mimic his fast-paced and expressive way of speaking.
This is why, when Neil Patrick Harris was cast as Deadpool in the new Deadpool VR, fans were surprised. But as for Reynolds, he decided to post a video on YouTube to share how he feels about it.
In the video titled Ryan Over-Reacts to Marvel's Deadpool VR, Reynolds got viewers in the first half by calling Harris a "butthole" for taking his "signature role," but he eventually praised the How I Met Your Mother star for having the "voice of an angel."
Harris will star as the chimichanga-loving, foul-mouthed mercenary in the upcoming R-Rated action-adventure game from Meta Quest, and Reynolds seems to have no hard feelings about it.
Fans mostly had a positive reaction to Reynolds' video, with some pointing out how close Harris' voice is to that of the Deadpool & Wolverine star. Some also noted Reynolds parodying Doogie Howser, M.D., the classic sitcom starring Harris, as a form of "revenge."
What Is Deadpool VR About?
Deadpool VR’s new trailer features the same old Deadpool fans have come to love. This time, though, the anti-hero is transported to Mojo World, where he gets the chance to become "filthy rich" by signing a contract.
Of course, he just skims through the fine print and signs it without giving it a second thought. So, he ends up warped into missions across different Marvel universes to take out various targets he deems "deserving of it."
It’s worth noting that Nolan North was the previous voice actor for the 2013 Deadpool game. But Harris also voiced Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and MTV’s Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, so he isn’t without Marvel voice acting credits.
What’s Next for Ryan Reynolds?
With a new Deadpool game on the horizon, fans can’t help but wonder when Reynolds will appear as Deadpool again. After all, a character like Deadpool could fit right into some upcoming MCU movies that feature parallel universes, like Avengers: Secret Wars.
It may also be possible that he won’t appear in the Multiverse Saga, as he’s currently involved in a legal battle with his wife, Blake Lively, against Justin Baldoni. The latter has accused the couple and The New York Times in a defamation suit, after Lively filed sexual harassment charges against him.
Furthermore, he was also under fire recently for letting his daughter, Inez, say an explicit line on the set of Deadpool & Wolverine. She was only 7 years old when she said the line: "Hey, when I want your opinion, I’ll take Wolverine’s d*** out of your mouth."
However, he expressed regret over the decision in an interview included in the film’s commentary track.
Reynolds also recently hinted that he’s working on an "ensemble" piece but has not provided many details about it.
