As Robert Pattinson continues to surprise fans with his acting trajectory, Bong Joon Ho's dystopian flick Mickey 17 launches the star of The Batman into outer space with one of the weirdest accents fans have heard from the actor.
Mickey 17 Trailer Stuns Fans with Robert Pattinson's Range
While most fans recognize Robert Pattinson in major Hollywood franchises such as Stephenie Meyer's hunky vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight series, Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter franchise, and DC's The Batman, the 38-year-old actor has also made quite a name for himself outside his biggest Sagas.
From gracing the screens as Rev. Preston Teagardin in the 2020 thriller The Devil All the Time to becoming the English voice actor for The Grey Heron in Studio Ghibli's animated The Boy and the Heron, fans add Mickey 17 to his long list of most 'committed' performances of his career.
Mickey 17 is originally called Mickey 7, which is the title of the 2022 sci-fi thriller novel written by Edward Ashton.
Directed by Parasite's Academy Award-winning writer/director Bong Joon Ho, Mickey 17 follows Robert Pattinson aka Mickey as one of the 'disposable' employees called an Expendable.
As the trailer suggests, the outer space project is a part of research exploring how humanity could be further enhanced and improved in the future — that is, through dying over and over again.
The protagonist is tasked to commit to the most dangerous missions and when he dies, a new copy of his body regenerates with his memories still intact. What could go wrong?
What makes Mickey 17 an even more impressive project is the fact that this will mark Bong Joon Ho's first feature since his 2019 thriller's success at the Academy Awards.
Considering that both flicks focus on dystopian aspects that the future could hold for humanity, there is no doubt that Mickey 17 could be the next breakthrough for Hollywood.
Starring alongside Pattinson are Mark Ruffalo, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, and Toni Colette in the Warner Bros. Pictures production.
