The world is still reeling after Tony Stark's depressing fate in Avengers: Endgame yet it looks like Robert Downey Jr. just wants us to feel worse. The Avengers: Infinity War star has just shared a behind-the-scenes look at what happened during Tony's big moment as he once again went up against Thanos.
Downey shared the images on his official Instagram account. The photos show three screens from the Endgame set as the Sherlock Holmes 3 star filmed the pivotal scene where Tony reveals he has taken the new Infinity Gauntlet from the Mad Titan and ultimately snaps his fingers. It's an awesome throwback to that moment but also a heartbreaking one since Downey added the hashtag #3000. This is a reference to the line Morgan Stark says to her father, "I love you 3000" and one that Tony repeats later on in a hologram he recorded before his death.
Although some fans believe that anybody else could have made the sacrifice and wore the Infinity Gauntlet in Endgame, it has already been confirmed that Tony was the only one who could have saved the entire universe.
Endgame writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus revealed that the future Doctor Strange saw where the Avengers won was the one where Tony died. This is why the Sorcerer Supreme chose to give away the Time Stone rather than have Thanos kill Tony before the right time.
Avengers: Endgame is still screening in theaters around the globe.
