When it comes to one very important matter, Lili Reinhart is letting her fans know that they are not alone. The Riverdale actress recently opened up about her self-image issues in a candid Instagram post.
Prior to her appearance in Riverdale, Reinhart appeared as a guest star on Scientastic! as well as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Her major break came with her role as Cooper in Riverdale, which she has held since 2017.
She has gone on to feature in other films since her Riverdale debut, including Hustlers and Chemical Romance, the latter of which she also produced. Her acting and producing career is thriving, as she is now starring in and producing Netflix's upcoming drama Plus/Minus.
Reinhart, however, remains upfront and honest about the industry's downfalls as well as her personal challenges as her career grows.
Reinhart’s Body Image Struggles
Reinhart opened up about her body image struggles in a series of Instagram stories in the hopes of helping others who are dealing with similar issues. Her problems have been more severe recently, leading to obsessive thoughts about her appearance and weight, she stated. She confessed that being in an industry that promotes toxic beauty standards, such as that there is only one size a woman should be, is a big part of her issue.
Reinhart, on the other hand, realizes how much her body has been through in her life, making it even more difficult for her to feel anything other than love for it.
"I've been struggling with obsessive thoughts about my body/weight the last few months and it's gotten pretty severe in the last week," she wrote on her Instagram Story.
"So, I want to take a moment to be vulnerable and share this in hope that any of you who are also struggling don't feel so alone."
Making a Difference
While Reinhart's posts provide promise by normalizing the discussion of body image, they also pose certain concerns. She made some really powerful comments about Hollywood's harmful beauty standards.
Actresses and models bear the brunt of the toxicity, as they are under pressure to be skinny in order to keep their jobs. Meanwhile, viewers frequently see only one body type promoted as "beautiful" by the industry. Even the most self-assured people begin to doubt themselves when such standards are hurled at them from all sides.
Riverdale star Reinhart is genuinely making a difference by speaking up. The first steps toward assisting millions of people in learning self-love and body acceptance are slamming unrealistic beauty standards and raising awareness and empathy for body image struggles.
